Why is this important?

We are all struggling as Britain faces its biggest cost of living catastrophe in decades. More and more people are grappling to make ends meet. The unprecedented increase in energy prices has made keeping the lights and heat on unaffordable for millions of people. It is particularly challenging for disabled people who face higher-than-average heating bills and spend more to keep warm, manage health conditions, and power essential equipment such as wheelchairs, pumps and stair lifts.

Consequently, many people fall into debt. But instead of helping them during the cost of living crisis, energy suppliers force them onto prepayment meters. A Times investigation has revealed that British Gas routinely sends debt collectors to break into customers’ homes and force-fit pay-as-you-go meters, even when they are known to have extreme 'vulnerabilities'.

This is why the Disability Poverty Campaign Group wants a ban on forcing Disabled people onto prepayment meters. The government wants to rely on the energy companies' goodwill, but that's not working. Help us put pressure on the government.
