Tell Congress: Invest in the Renewable and Just Energy Future
On June 6th, President Biden issued an Executive Order invoking the Defense Production Act to boost domestic solar manufacturing. This is a massive step forward in transitioning to a renewable, just, and secure energy future and tackling the climate emergency.
Specifically, DPA will be used to rapidly expand American manufacturing of:
- Solar panel parts like photovoltaic modules and module components;
- Building insulation;
- Heat pumps, which heat and cool buildings super efficiently;
- Equipment for making and using clean electricity-generated fuels, including electrolyzers, fuel cells, and related platinum group metals; and
- Critical power grid infrastructure like transformers.
To get the job done and support just, renewable energy projects, President Biden will need Congress’ support. That’s why Reps. Bush and Crow and Sen. Sanders introduced the Energy Security and Independence Act. If passed, Congress could provide $100 billion of critical funding for investment in the U.S.’s renewable energy supply chain and programs to lower utility prices.
