Tell Congress: No war for Oil

On February 28, the U.S., Israel, and other allies attacked Iran. The bombing killed Iran’s leader, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as well as nearly 100 civilians, mostly children, mostly girls, who did nothing more than show up for school.

Trump offered no specific conditions for war, nor did he seek congressional authorization, as is required by law. But Saturday morning he did make clear that this is a war — not a limited strike, as he claimed last year had ‘totally demolished’ Iran’s nuclear capability. And he made it clear that his goal is regime change — Just like George W. Bush’s war in Iraq some decades ago.

Why would Trump want to go to war and change the government of Iran now? Especially since he has repeatedly said that he would never do so? We don’t know, but oil executives told Politico recently that they want to be a “stabilizing force” in Iran should the regime fall. In fact they consider war with Iran preferable to the war with Venezuela because “Iran’s oil industry, … is still considered to be structurally sound, unlike that of Venezuela’s.”

This is another illegal war for oil. The second Trump has started this year. Enough. Tell Congress to pass an emergency war powers resolution NOW and stop Trump's illegal wars for oil.
