Tell Congress to Reject the SAVE Act
The SAVE (“Safeguard American Voter Eligibility”) Act is a nationwide voter suppression bill.
Climate hawks have been fighting the SAVE Act for more than a year. But in case you forgot, it would require people to show papers proving that they’re citizens in order to vote. But 21 million eligible voters don’t have these documents — like a birth certificate, passport, or naturalization papers — readily available. Getting a new passport or a copy of your birth certificate can cost hundreds of dollars making this a modern day poll tax. And millions of women who marry and change their last name may not be able to get changed paperwork that matches their drivers license or other ID in time for the midterm elections.
Congress has been deadlocked on the bill for months. Senate Democrats are blocking it with a filibuster, and Trump keeps demanding that Senate Republicans abolish the filibuster or attach the SAVE Act to some unrelated budget reconciliation bill that is not subject to a 60 vote threshold. In July, Trump even refused to sign a bipartisan housing affordability bill as a sort of protest/tantrum to demand the bill's passage. The latest news is that Trump's MAGA minions in the House are trying to find a way to attach the SAVE Act to defense spending bills, but so far it hasn't worked.
If this legislation were to pass, tens of millions of Americans would face major new restrictions on their voter registration as soon as the 2026 midterm elections. We can’t let that happen.
Use this page to send a letter to your Representative and both Senators telling them to vote NO on any version of the SAVE Act, and any spending bill it gets attached to.
