Tell the Cooper Administration: Hold Industrial Hog Polluters Accountable

North Carolina’s Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has proposed improvements for managing raw animal sewage generated from industrial hog operations for the next five years. These common-sense provisions would increase oversight and transparency of hog waste managed using the lagoon and spray field system and increase protection of nearby communities and waterways.

For decades, the state has not required reports of how much waste is generated, when it’s sprayed, how much is sprayed, or where it is going. This must change to prevent more pollution from raw hog sewage.

Tell Governor Cooper's DEQ Secretary, Michael Regan, that you support the proposed improvements in the new permit that will regulate swine waste management for the next five years. They will protect citizens and our waterways. If you have a personal story about how this issue affects you, please add it to our email message to Sec. Regan.
