Tell Senators Warnock and Ossoff to Vote No on H.R. 29 and Resist the Mass Deportation Agenda

The Senate is dangerously close to passing the Laken Riley Act, a deeply flawed piece of legislation that accelerates the incoming administration’s alarming agenda of mass deportation. If passed, President Trump would have the opportunity to sign it into law soon after taking office.

Georgia senators have not yet signalled their opposition to this bill. We need your help to tell them to REJECT this bill as a serious threat to Georgia’s vibrant immigrant communities.

If signed into law, the Laken Riley Act will impose harsh penalties on long-settled individuals who are out of a particular immigration status merely for being arrested on minor offenses such as shoplifting. This bill would mandate immigrants be detained without the possibility of bond and without a judge’s assessment on whether detention is appropriate or necessary.

The bill would also grant state Attorneys Generals unprecedented authority to interfere with an individual’s immigration case or aspect of immigration law. This provision opens the door to politically motivated lawsuits that could further disrupt lives and increase uncertainty for immigrants and their loved ones.

Tell Senators Ossoff and Warnock to stand firm against political scapegoating of immigrant communities and to VOTE NO on H.R. 29.
