Tell You State Representative to Vote NO on all anti-LGBTQ+ legislation

There is a set of anti-LGBTQ+ bills currently awaiting a vote in the Alabama House of Representatives. These bills include:

  • HB401: A "drag ban." Bans drag on the basis that it is sexual in nature, and cannot be performed in K-12 public schools, libraries or in any public spaces. This would essentially ban drag brunches, pride parades, and pride festivals since they are in public spaces.
  • HB405: The “what’s in your pants?” bill. This will force people to be assigned a binary gender against their will by the state government based on a binary, transphobic and heterosexual definition of a person’s biological sex. While defining a “person” as something that “includes an individual, corporation, partnership, company or other business entity.” What this could mean if passed:
    • Provide a basis to revert any changed markers on state documents where people have already had them updated.
    • Prevent trans people from updating legal gender markers on drivers licenses and birth certificates
    • Require trans people to use the wrong bathrooms and other facilities.
  • HB354: The “Don't say Gay” bill. This would force K-12 schools to out students to parents and bans any instruction about gender identity or sexual orientation for students in K-8th grades.

As Christians, we at Grace Presbyterian Church reject these hateful bills that seek to harm our LGBTQ+ siblings. God loves everyone and God made everyone exactly who they are supposed to be. We call on people of all faiths and no faith to contact their representative and demand they vote no on these anti-LGBTQ+ bills and reject any law that would deny rights and dignity to LGBTQ+ Alabamians.
