Tell Your Alder: Support Civilian Oversight of the Chicago Police

Mayoral control of the Chicago Police Department has ultimately been used to protect and defend a systematically racist, violent, and abusive institution, whose officers most recently killed a 13-year-old child.

Write a letter to your alderperson to demand that they join the effort to bring real community control of the police to Chicago.

Demand that they sponsor the Empowering Communities for Public Safety (ECPS) ordinance--a joint project of the Civilian Police Accountability Council (CPAC) and the Grassroots Alliance for Police Accountability (GAPA)--to bring civilian oversight to the Chicago Police Department. The ECPS ordinance would create a Community Commission on Public Safety to give Chicagoans a voice in how the police department is ran and how the budget is spent, and to put the Civilian Office of Police Accountability under community (not Mayoral) control.

NOTE: If your alder doesn't appear, it's because they already support the joint ordinance.
