A federal judge in Texas just found the national moratorium on evictions unconstitutional. Our people are unemployed, overworked, and struggling to survive a pandemic that is killing us. We need City Council to step in and protect our communities from evictions.

The Just Cause for Eviction ordinance would prevent landlords from evicting tenants unless there was a clear violation of the rental agreement, and would provide tenants with relocation assistance funds when they are forced to move for a limited set of approved circumstances (such as taking the unit off the market or making major repairs).

The ordinance is currently being sponsored by Alds. Chris Taliaferro, Daniel La Spata, Jeanette Taylor, Michael Rodriguez, Byron Sigcho-Lopez, Felix Cardona, Rossana Rodriguez Sanchez, Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, Andre Vasquez, Matt Martin, and Maria Hadden.
