Tell your Senator to keep FERC Shut Down
The Senate is back in session on on Monday, July 11, and that means the vote on Trump's Federal Energy
Regulatory Commission (FERC) nominees could come at any time! If the Senate votes to install Donald Trump's nominees, Fracked Gas infrastructure projects including the Atlantic Coast Pipeline (ACP) in North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia; the Jordan Cove export facility in Oregon and many more may surge forward - trampling local control, climate justice, and common sense in their path.
FERC, you may remember is notorious for abusing its legal authority and peoples’ rights. They routinely strips people of their legal right to challenge pipeline projects until property rights have been violated, forests cut, and people are forced to live next to explosive fracked gas pipelines, export terminals, and compressor stations.
For the last few months, dozens of communities have had a reprieve, of sorts, becuase without a quorum of 3 commissioners FERC can't approve any fracked gas infrastructure. Right now only acting chair Cheryl LaFleur remains. And we aim to keep it that way.
No Senator who claims to care about the climate, property rights, or the environment should vote to install any FERC nominees for a 5 year term. Especially, not Donald Trump's nominees who have spent their careers variously fighting to undermine climate science, serve Mitch McConnell in dismantling climate legislation at the behest of King Coal, likened our brothers and sisters who protest pipelines to terrorists, and will be expected to be loyal to the most corrupt and investigated man ever to sit in the oval office.
This is not a partisan political issue – this is a people issue. Every Senator needs to hear from you now about this impending vote - but especially Democrats and moderate Republicans who claim to support the Paris climate agreement and other actions on climate change.
Use this page to send a letter your Senators and tell them to vote NO on Trump's FERC nominees. If we can stop the Senate from restoring a quorum at FERC we can prevent approval of any more fracked gas pipelines.
