The rents are too high!

Rent increases are outpacing wage increases in our city and state. Today, over half of Cook County residents are housing cost burdened—that means they are paying more than 30% of their income on rent! More and more, rising rents are pushing out long-time residents and destabilizing our neighborhoods. But, because of a statewide ban on rent control, put in place by the ALEC-backed Illinois Realtors Association in the 1990s, cities have not been able to consider rent regulations to deal with the affordable housing crisis.

This March, over 70% of the voters asked said they support repealing the ban on rent control. And now legislators in Springfield are considering a bill that would both repeal the ban and bring rent stabilization to Illinois!

Send a letter to your State Senator and Representative and let them know you support SB3512 - The Rent Control Act and want to see rent stabilization in our state.
