This fall, the 74 families and residents of Elevado Estates Mobile Home Park in Arvada, CO received a notice that lot rent would increase by December. The notice claimed that this increase is necessary to pay for recent and upcoming improvements to the park.
However, residents have not seen any new improvements since receiving the notice and have not been given information about new improvements to be made. In fact, problems with appliances in the laundry room and other maintenance issues around the park have continued to be a problem for many residents, and they still do not have access to a pool, community hall, or other amenities that similar communities have.
Jefferson county, the county in which Elevado Estates Mobile Home Park is located, currently has over 20,000 COVID-19 cases and is one of the five counties with the most cases in CO. With the state and many municipalities enforcing higher level public health restrictions, working class families like Elevado Estates residents fear the worst, both financially and health-wise. Now is not the time for a rent increase.
