For-profit nursing homes suffered COVID-19 case rates five to six times higher than those of nonprofit and government-run nursing homes. In total, nursing homes in CA accounted for 4% the state's coronavirus cases, but a disproportionate 21% of its deaths. During the pandemic, there have been 200 cases of improper discharges of seniors from such facilities. With cases of the Delta variant rising, evictions and forced transfers of seniors during a pandemic is a potential death sentence for the most frail members of our.population. We urge you to encourage CA Senators to vote "AYE" on AB 279 to protect the lives of our seniors.
