Urge to Remove Misleading Language About Türkiye from H.Res. 594

H.Res. 594 currently contains language that misrepresents religious freedom in Türkiye. It inaccurately claims that Christians cannot freely worship, missionaries are expelled on false grounds, and foreign clergy face systemic barriers.

Turkish Americans and friends of Türkiye are calling on Congress to remove these misleading references, which undermine the truth, strain U.S.–Türkiye relations, and misinform the public.

  • Türkiye is a secular republic that protects freedom of religion under its Constitution and the Treaty of Lausanne.

  • Christian and other minority communities continue to worship openly, publish religious texts, and operate institutions.

  • Allegations of systematic harassment are unsubstantiated and one-sided.

Including these false claims damages U.S.–Türkiye relations and undermines the credibility of the resolution.

We need your voice to ensure Congress acts responsibly.
