Urge Your County & City Reps to Fund a Public Utility Study!
Have you had enough of RG&E profiting off of failure for decades? Join Metro Justice in calling for a tried and true solution: a public utility for the Monroe County and Rochester area! While residents pay RG&E for failure, RG&E’s parent companies Avangrid and Iberdrola leech over $100 million in profits out of our region every year while residents deal with expensive bills for terrible service.
It’s time for a local public utility that is affordable, responsive to your needs, renewable, and invests your hard-earned money into our local economy and workforce. No more paying for failure!
Rochester and Monroe County residents can take over RG&E in our area, and turn it into a community-controlled public utility. NY state law states that with an implementation study and a positive referendum, RG&E would be forced to sell to the public.
Send a letter to your local representatives today to urge them to take the first step in this process: funding and commissioning an implementation study! Specifically, the Monroe County Legislature should allocate up to $1 million, and Rochester City Council should allocate up to $500 thousand, towards a joint study. This study would give us a comprehensive road map for establishing a public utility that serves our needs for heat and electricity better than RG&E in every way.
We ask that all of you send a letter to your County Representatives: Monroe County Executive Adam Bello, County staff people, County Legislature President Sabrina LaMar, and your specific County Legislator (you can find your County Legislator here: https://www.monroecounty.gov/legislature-legislators).
If you also live in the City of Rochester, please additionally send your letter to: the Mayor, City staff people, all At-Large Council Members, and your district City Council Member (you can find your district Council Member here: https://www.cityofrochester.gov/citycouncil/).
