The MTA is supporting legislation to increase the tax rate on corporate profits. The bill, An Act relative to restoring corporate tax rates, was filed by Senator Sal DiDomenico (D-Everett) and Representative Mary Keefe (D-Worcester).

Businesses that are generating a profit should be expected to contribute more to support the public goods and services on which their profits are based, especially in the midst of a public health emergency. This legislation would raise the current corporate tax rate of 8 percent to the pre-2009 rate of 9.5 percent, and in doing so could generate up to $500 million annually in new revenue from profitable businesses.
