Urge Your Legislators to Support MTA-Backed Recess Bill!

The MTA is supporting legislation to guarantee at least 20 minutes of daily recess for all K-5 students in public schools, and we need your help to secure legislative co-sponsors.

The bill, An Act relative to physical and social recess in schools, was filed by Senator Mike Rush (D-Boston) and Representative Jon Santiago (D-Boston). It would ensure that every K-5 student would benefit from the many academic, social, emotional and physical health benefits that unstructured, free-play recess provides. The bill would also prohibit public schools from decreasing the amount of time allotted for recess due to changes in standards or curriculum. To learn more about this legislation, please click here.

Please email your legislators right away and urge them to support and co-sponsor the MTA-backed bill to ensure at least 20 minutes of recess daily for K-5 students! Please also consider calling your legislators to follow up on your email. You can find your legislators’ phone numbers by clicking here.
