[URGENT ACTION ALERT] Tell the Berkeley City Manager to Keep Dispensaries Open!
On March 25th, The Berkeley Office of Economic Development sent a notice to all cannabis dispensaries in Berkeley demanding that they shut down all in-store and curbside pick up services effective immediately. Dispensaries in Berkeley will now be required to operate as delivery-only services. This is an unprecedented situation and access to cannabis products is more important than ever before. This order will cut off availability to many patients who depend on clean, tested cannabis for serious conditions. Cannabis has been an over-the-counter, age-restricted medicine, like Sudafed or Nyqul, since 2018. In these scary and uncertain times, it is crucial to avoid any impact on healthcare accessibility.
There is no rational public health or safety benefit to this decision. Cannabis retailers pose no more of a public threat to the community than grocery stores, pharmacies, or restaurants. Liquor stores even remain open to the public.
