HB 602 is a dangerous anti-free speech bill

On February 24, 2025, the Georgia General Assembly introduced House Bill 602 (HB 602), a bill that would deny state-funded loans, grants, and scholarships to students who are punished by their school for their speech or protest activity or are convicted of a crime related to their speech or protest activity.

HB 602 is a dangerous and deliberate attack on student activists for Palestine, attempting to scare them into silence about Israel’s genocide in Gaza. It targets Georgia students for punishment in violation of the First Amendment. If it were to become law, students would either be too scared to continue their activism for fear of losing financial aid and scholarships, or they would be punished for doing so.

Email your representatives today and demand that they oppose this insidious piece of legislation and the danger it poses to our students’ rights.
