Vote NO on the spending cap February 23, 2018

Tell Representatives: We need a raise. Vote NO on the spending cap!
On Sunday, February 25, the House of Representatives will vote on a package of bills that would put education spending in jeopardy and limit our chances of EVER getting pay raises from the state.
They call it “budget reform,” but it will force lawmakers to make hundreds of millions of dollars in unnecessary cuts to vital services unless they can muster a two-thirds vote to override a budget cap.
Louisiana could be unable to pay for critical needs in education, health care, public safety and transportation in future years.
If this cap had been in effect in 2017-17, the state would have been forced to cut $567 million from the budget that was already too stingy to meet the needs of Louisiana families.
Other states have tried these gimmicks to disastrous effect. They do nothing to clean up the tax code or make government run more efficiently. They turn decision-making over to a flawed and rigid formula, and empower a small minority of lawmakers.
Louisiana’s teachers and school employees need a pay raise, not more cuts to education!
It is urgent that you send a message to your representatives, and tell them to vote NO on HB 12, HB 15 and HCR 2.
Representatives will vote on Sunday, so please send this message TODAY!
