Grantees are eligible to utilize funds from the Health Equity Innovation Act to tackle chronic
disease challenges that disproportionately benefit the health of certain individuals while
disadvantaging the mental and physical health of others in society. According to CDC research
from September 2020, approximately 51.8% of adults have been diagnosed with chronic
conditions. Additionally, the study indicated that 28.4% of women, 27% of Non-Hispanic Blacks,
16.4% of Non-Hispanic Asians, and 17.7% of Hispanics with two or more chronic conditions
could benefit from the preventative measures offered by the new grant program.
H.R. 5520 aims to provide essential support to broaden access to care that is culturally and
linguistically tailored, fosters innovation, and mitigates persistent health disparities and chronic
disease challenges for people everywhere. Chronic diseases can be prevented!
