We need your support for the Emergency Housing Acquisition Program

A few months ago, we demanded Mayor Breed and Board of Supervisor Use Prop I Money for Rent Relief and Affordable Housing.

During the budget process, some money was set aside for rent relief, but social housing was shut out entirely. It was a huge disappointment.

But we’re still fighting, and now there’s a second chance. Supervisor Preston has a proposal to put $64million from Prop I money to housing acquisition, to make sure the city can step in when vulnerable tenants are at risk of losing their homes to speculators. It’s called the Emergency Housing Acquisition Program, and it is a big investment in creating permanently affordable housing citywide.

It’s the best strategy to prevent the mass displacement that San Francisco experienced after the last great recession. The problem is, the Mayor is working behind the scenes to kill this effort, and right now some Supervisors seem to be listening.

They need to hear loud and clear that Prop I money is meant for social housing, and we have a potential crisis of housing speculation that we need to address right now.

The proposal is coming for a vote at the full Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, November 30. We need you to send a message to the Mayor and the Board of Supervisors.
