Today, Sen. Brian Schatz (D-HI) and Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-OR) are introducing the Wall Street Tax Act of 2019, which would place a tiny 10 cent tax on every $100 of stock, bond and derivative transactions and raise nearly $800 billion over 10 years that can be used to make major investments in critical services for working families.
This legislation is also known as a Financial Transaction Tax, which would rein in Wall Street abuses, such as high-frequency trading and short-term speculation that lead to massive Wall Street volatility.
