"description": "When workers are temporarily laid off, like during factory retooling, they often have a job waiting for them. But under current rules, they can be forced to apply for multiple unrelated jobs just to qualify for unemployment benefits. That doesn’t make sense for workers. It doesn’t make sense for employers seeking interested candidates. And it doesn’t make sense for employers who are planning to bring those workers back. SB 136 fixes this problem, following a committee substitute that passed the House Economic Development & Workforce Investment Committee, adding key provisions from SB 163 into SB 136. Thanks to strong advocacy from union members, including UAW 862, this bill is now just one step away from becoming law. Lawmakers from both parties, including Republican leaders Sen. Phillip Wheeler, Speaker David Osborne, and Sen. Funke Fromeyer, have helped move this forward. Tell your legislators to vote YES on SB 136.",
