"description": "Tell the Illinois General Assembly to Pass United We Move (SB 1938) by May 31 The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), Metra, Pace and Regional Transit Authority (RTA) currently face a $770 million fiscal cliff. If left unaddressed, these agencies will face dramatic cuts, including major lay-offs, route or line eliminations, service cuts, station closures and cancellation of planned expansions and necessary repairs. These drastic measures would further damage the region's transit systems, and cause massive disruptions to the Illinois economy and workforce. The Labor Alliance for Public Transportation, a coalition of labor unions representing transit workers in partnership with the Illinois AFL-CIO and Chicago Federation of Labor, introduced United We Move, a bill to: Improve service. Riders are asking for faster, more reliable commutes. We can accomplish this by improving collaboration between the CTA, Metra and Pace and through the creation of a universal fare tool that helps riders get to and from their destinations safely and on time. Enhance safety. Through coordinated safety efforts with CTA, Metra and Pace, including additional safety personnel on vehicles and platforms, riders can get to and from where they need to go with extra peace of mind. Keep transit affordable. Illinois riders are looking for affordability. By reevaluating fare prices every two years and aligning funding ratios with national standards we can create a more equitable funding structure for our transit systems and keep transit affordable. Ensure that our public transit systems have a secure, dedicated revenue stream. Riders deserve a public transit system that is responsibly and reliably funded into their futures. Tell your legislators to vote yes on SB 1938 and pass the bill before the May 31 deadline.",
