"description": "The epidemic of wage theft has become business-as-usual in far too many industries in Massachusetts. Nearly $1 billion in wages are stolen from hundreds of thousands of low-wage workers each year in Massachusetts. In today’s economy, wage theft has overwhelmed the capacity of our existing labor laws and enforcement mechanisms as employers increasingly subcontract or outsource core parts of their business to other companies. This is money stolen from families, communities, and the Commonwealth at a time when revenue is desperately needed. Often, low-wage and immigrant workers are victims of wage theft and are denied meal breaks, overtime pay and minimum wage and are forced to work off the clock without pay. Because of the threats facing immigrant workers from a hostile federal administration, they are less likely to report wage theft for fear of deportation or other forms of retaliation. Sponsored by Rep. Dan Donahue and Sen. Sal DiDomenico, An Act to Prevent Wage Theft, Promote Employer Accountability, and Enhance Public Enforcement addresses this growing crisis to end wage theft and ensure workers receive their hard-earned money. Tell your legislators to cosponsor H.2094 & S.1300 to end wage theft now!",
