"description": "You and I both know that money has too much influence in our political system. Powerful special interests have too much power over political outcomes – and at the local level, where a single big check can fill a campaign treasury, the problem is even more extreme. Did you know that in California today, contractors, developers, and other local special interests can give massive campaign contributions to the very local elected officials who are responsible for issuing them contracts, licenses, and permits? And they can do this right before, right after, or even right when local officials have those contracts, licenses, and permits under consideration. I was shocked when I learned. It’s a clear conflict of interest. And California Common Cause has vowed to do something about it. We are the main supporters of Senate Bill 1439, which would put a stop to this extreme pay-to-play in our local politics. But we need your help. We’re calling on Assembly Member Holden, Chair of the California Assembly Appropriations Committee and your Assembly Member, to pass SB 1439 through his committee and end pay-to-play politics by local contractors, developers, and special interests. Will you write to Assembly Member Holden now?",
