	"description": "TDS Broadband technicians serving the St. George, Cedar City, and Mesquite areas are highly skilled professionals who keep our communities connected every single day. While performing this important work, the workers at TDS Broadband are dealing with the harsh realities of the economic crisis that is impacting all workers in the St. George and surrounding areas. Since 2020, the cost of living in St. George and surrounding communities has skyrocketed: Median home prices have risen from around $275,000 to over $500,000. That is an 87% increase in just five years. Rents have increased by $500-$600/month, now averaging $1,600-$1,900 for a modest apartment. Grocery and gas prices have increased by 30-35%, and utility costs continue to climb. The overall cost of living is now 8-9% higher than the national average, with housing up to 25% more than elsewhere in the country. Meanwhile, TDS’s wage proposals have fallen short, failing to reflect the rising costs or the value these technicians bring to the company and our communities. TDS technicians take pride in their work and care about delivering quality service. However, without fair wages, it becomes difficult to stay in the jobs they love. We call on TDS Telecom to do the right thing: offer a fair contract, fair wages that meet the drastic rise in the cost of living, and invest in the workers who maintain our telecommunications infrastructure. Southern Utah deserves strong, reliable service, and that starts with treating the people who provide it with dignity and fairness.
