"description": "As the Trump administration accelerates its ghastly anti-immigrant agenda, New York must fight back. Attacks on immigrant families are an assault on the wellbeing of our communities and New York as a whole. We must stand up to the capitalist, xenophobic deportation machine and say: all are welcome in New York. In Albany, there are two pieces of critical legislation that are top priority to keep immigrant New Yorkers safe and protect our communities from being terrorized by ICE and CBP. The New York for All Act prohibits New York’s state and local government agencies, including police and sheriffs, from colluding with ICE, disclosing sensitive information, and diverting personnel or resources to further federal immigration enforcement. Our state’s resources should not be used to carry out Trump’s cruel immigration agenda, and New Yorkers and their families should not have to live with the anxiety that interacting with the government — whether in a traffic stop, at school, work, or public healthcare settings, will lead to deportation. The Dignity Not Detention Act (introduced by socialist in office Senator Julia Salazar) would end the practice of using for-profit prisons for immigrant detention in New York. While NY banned private prisons in the criminal legal system in 2007, ICE still detains hundreds of New Yorkers every night in inhumane and torturous conditions — and they’re looking to expand their business across the state. Dignity Not Detention would end immigration detention contracts with New York government and prohibit any private entity (person or business) from operating immigrant detention facilities in New York. It’s critical that these two bills pass the legislature, and are signed by the governor, this year! Use our tool to call your State Senator and Assembly Member and demand they pass NY for All and Dignity Not Detention Now!",
