"description": "The New York City Council is considering bills that would limit our ability to protest and increase surveillance. The Council is considering two bills – Intro 001 and Intro 0175 – that would severely limit the ability to protest by permitting the NYPD to establish and maintain security perimeters around educational institutions and places of worship. The Council is also considering another bill – Intro 0327 – that would provide private schools with public money to pay for increased security and surveillance. These bills expand the capacity of the NYPD to police and surveil Black, brown, and immigrant New Yorkers, jeopardizing the safety of protestors exercising their first amendment rights and students attending school. In a time of rising repression, it is crucial that our representatives safeguard the right to protest, not erode it. Use this tool to call your city councilors and City Council Speaker Julie Menin and urge them to vote no on these bills.",
