"description": "As people living in the imperial core, we bear a responsibility to understand the mechanisms by which our country oppresses the majority of the world. This is especially important during the United States’ current escalation of imperial aggression. The Internationalist Education Subcommittee (IES) is proud to launch our first Anti-Imperialism 101 course to help educate NYC-DSA members about the mechanisms of imperialism and the lessons we can learn from those who have resisted it. We will read a wide variety of texts and authors, including theoreticians like Aimé Césaire, historical figures such as Thomas Sankara, and modern voices including Naomi Klein and Vincent Bevins. We sought to keep assigned readings relatively short, as to ensure that course participants are able to engage with a wide variety of texts without being overwhelmed by the volume of these assignments. However, we highly encourage those who have the time and interest to read beyond the assigned pages. Syllabus will be sent out to those who RSVP.",
