"description": "An Interfaith Service & Vigil 20 Years With No Executions: Bearing Witness An interfaith gathering to affirm the dignity of every life. A march to Central Prison. A candlelight vigil. On August 18, 2006, North Carolina carried out its last execution. Twenty years later, we gather to remember the lives taken by the death penalty and to affirm a different future for our state. Join the NC Coalition for Alternatives to the Death Penalty for an interfaith service and vigil marking 20 years with no executions in North Carolina. The evening will include music and liturgy, followed by a candlelit march to Central Prison to hold vigil for the 43 people executed in North Carolina's modern death penalty era and the 123 people currently living under a death sentence. Grounded in a shared belief in human dignity and the value of every life, this gathering welcomes people of all faiths as well as people with no faith tradition. Light refreshments will be provided. Additional details will be added as the event approaches, including information about speakers, parking, transportation and shuttle options, accessibility, and other logistics. Event Details Tuesday, August 18 • 6:30–8:30 PM Pullen Memorial Baptist Church Sanctuary 1801 Hillsborough Street Raleigh, NC 27605 Help Make This Gathering Possible This gathering is part of NCCADP's statewide 20th anniversary series reflecting on what two decades without executions have revealed about North Carolina.
