"description": "Come together with parent advocates from around the city to learn how to get the respect and rights our families deserve. On September 24th from 2-4 pm we'll meet together and hear from each other about the rules that protect our rights, and share information about how to advocate effectively, in and beyond our schools and district. Fellow parent advocates will help you learn your family's rights, and how to advocate effectively for y(our) children. You'll share what you've learned too - we're stronger together! It's not easy being a parent in a separate and unequal public school system. We have great public schools which have been underfunded for decades. Families are pushing back, working together to demand the resources we need for all our schools, and putting the needs of Black, Latino, new Asian & Arab immigrant families, LGBTQ and other families at the center. Join us to learn what our schools are supposed to be doing for our families, and students, and to join with advocates across the district and country who are fighting for the public schools our children deserve. Schools are required to respect our: languages, cultures, gender identities, sexual orientations, religious identities, immigration status, learning needs, enthusiasm, budgets and our assets -- in short we deserve welcoming and respectful schools. In an underfunded and segregated system, we don't always get what we deserve. Join us September 24th to share and learn what we can do to win changes for our children and children across the district.",
