"description": "We are a group of land defenders and climate activists involved with fighting against the North Brooklyn Pipeline being built by National Grid (NG). The affiliated organizations fighting against NG and helping with this event are No North Brooklyn Pipeline Coalition, Frack Outta Brooklyn, and The Sane Energy Project. This is the second iteration of this fundraiser to raise money for pipeline related activism and organizing. The North Brooklyn Pipeline is currently halted in construction as of a year ago but phases 1-4 runs under the homes, schools, and hospitals of working class BIPOC communities of East Brooklyn. It is a pipeline that is not needed and was not agreed to by the community yet NG is making them pay for it by raising their monthly gas bills. This rate hike has already been approved by the Public Service Commision. And that is why No North Brooklyn Pipeline and Sane Energy has launched a gas bill strike against them. Now, NG is trying to obtain permits to build new LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) Vaporizers in Greenpoint, Brooklyn in their gas processing facilities on Newtown Creek. These vaporizers are extremely dangerous to the black and Brown communities of East Brooklyn not to mention completely unnecessary. The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has pushed their decision to accept or reject the proposed expansion from Dec 7th to Feb 7th because of our community coming together and organizing.   For more information on the pipeline fight, visit nonbkpipeline.org and follow on Instagram @nonbkpipeline, @frackouttabk, and @saneenergy.
