"description": "Central Brooklyn DSA is going to the theatre! Join us Thursday, October 22, for a special field trip to see The Designated Mourner by Wallace Shawn. Heavily inspired by Shawn's many trips to Nicaragua in the early nineties and his mid-life politicization, The Designated Mourner focuses on a familiar phase of capitalist accumulation: the descent into fascism. The play recounts the lives and dramas of a dissident poet-intellectual, his daughter, and her daughter's new lover. Slowly, and almost imperceptibly, the familial drama widens to include state violence, protests, and assassinations, until all three are inescapably embroiled in them, and each makes different decisions on where they stand. The show will take place at the Brooklyn Masonic Temple, one of our favorite venues in Central Brooklyn. Doors at 6:30, show at 7:00. Seating is open and first-come, first-served. We will make our best effort to sit in the same area so we can enjoy the performance together! In addition to RSVPing here, please buy your tickets ($10) on Eventbrite to guarantee your spot.",
