"description": "The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may occur where they live. CERT trains volunteers in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. The Fire Recovery Working Group and the Mutual Aid committee are collaborating to organize members of DSA-LA in good standing to attend a seven week (total time: 17.5 hours) CERT program throughout the Fall and Winter of 2025. The program is provided free of charge within Los Angeles, with courses being offered in a variety of locations around the city, allowing DSA-LA members from all branches to attend. We later will offer “mini-CERT” trainings to both DSA-LA members and to the community at-large to promote outreach and strengthen our community’s ability to respond to disasters. Join us for a brief informational meeting, where we'll be discussing a more in-depth overview of the CERT course structure and provide ways for DSA-LA members to get plugged into their local class.",
