Here we ask, what can be done to ready us to take action in the world for environmental preservation and to unify our efforts? This conference will be featuring prominent environmental lawyers and representatives that are active in the communities training, educating and mentoring youth and stewards to confidently navigate the changing landscape, as well as activist spiritual leaders. Speakers will address what work needs to be done, and what realizations need to be made to actually clear the path to accomplish setting the environment and relationships into balance before we move confidently down the path. Do any safeguards need to be put into place? How can we get onto the same page and have consensus? How can we make sure that our decisions are wise and not erroneously driven? How can we partner with those who have an understanding of caretakership and let true understanding lead the way, especially if we have forgotten the way? How do we apprentice with and form connections with Native Indigenous folks to learn from and support each other? This Summit is featuring a Children&#x27;s Fire, where the youth both highlight activities they are doing for the environment, as well as provide a platform for them to address us elders and adults on what they feel is important for us to include and consider as they take they step into their coming position as the new caretakers. An Elder fire keeper will light this fire for the children creating the container for our purposed prayer / intention at hand. One who holds the space for the coming generations and the continuation of the cycle of life. Together we will place our prayers into this holy fire as we hold up our sacred intention and move with the intention of safeguarding life on this planet. Tickets required but we will oversell event due to no shows. If you wish to make sure you get a seat, please sign in at the beginning of the event or close to the beginning. Mac brings two worlds together – an ancient world-view that emphasizes relationship, interdependence and reverence for life with the significant challenges and opportunities of the 21st century Paul Powlesland: Founder of Lawyers for Nature Paul Powlesland is a barrister at Garden Court Chambers who specializes in upholding the rights of environmental activists to protest and protect the natural world, and uses environmental law and regulations to defend trees, rivers and wildlife. As a boat dweller for many years, he is also determined to protect the rights of boaters and other Traveller groups.[1] On 12 September 2022, Paul Powlesland was threatened with arrest in Parliament Square in London for being a Blank Paper Protestor in relation to the #NotMyKing campaign.[2] In March 2023, Paul Powlesland was one of more than 120 lawyers who, organized by a group called Lawyers Are Responsible, published a Declaration of Conscience in which they said they will refuse to act for new fossil fuel projects or to prosecute members of campaign groups opposing new fossil fuel projects, such as Extinction Rebellion, Insulate Britain and Just Stop Oil.[3] Les Malbon: received the Provost teaching award for excellence in (Indigenous Ways of Being and Knowing), and completed a United Nations diploma at the University of Peace (Earth Charter Institute in Costa Rica) in Sustainability and Peace Studies. He is a permaculturist and a trained herbalist from both a Western and Indigenous perspective, as well as a Sundancer and community builder. He works closely with Chief Rueben George. Will Falk: is a writer, lawyer, and environmental activist. The natural world speaks and Will’s work is how he listens. He believes the ongoing destruction of the natural world is the most pressing issue confronting us today. For Will, writing is a tool to be used in resistance. Will graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School and practiced as a public defender in Kenosha, WI. He left the public defender office to pursue frontline environmental activism. So far, activism has taken him to the Unist’ot’en Camp – an indigenous cultural center and pipeline blockade on unceded Wet’suwet’en territory in so-called British Columbia, Canada, to a construction blockade on Mauna Kea in Hawai’i, to endangered pinyon-juniper forests in the Great Basin, and to Thacker Pass in northern Nevada where Will is trying to stop an open pit lithium mine from destroying a beautiful mountain pass.. His writing has been published by CounterPunch, Earth Island Journal, CATALYST Magazine, Whole Terrain, Dark Mountain Project, the San Diego Free Press, and The Wayfarer among others. His first book How Dams Fall was published in August, 2019 by Homebound Publications. His second book When I Set the Sweetgrass Down, a full-length collection of poetry, will be released by Homebound Publications on April 11, 2023.
