"description": "Lawyers for Good Government, Connecticut Bar Association, and the Connecticut Employment Lawyers Association are urgently calling on all attorneys and concerned members of the public to join a nationwide National Law Day of Action on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 12:00 pm EST. This coordinated national effort will unite legal professionals across the country in a powerful demonstration to defend the rule of law, judicial independence, and the independence of the legal profession. With unprecedented challenges to these fundamental principles, we believe it is crucial for our profession to stand together in a visible, united show of support for these cornerstones of American democracy. According to local organizer, Attorney Irene Bassock, “When attorneys and judges across the country stand together on May 1st, we send a powerful message that the rule of law must be protected. This isn’t about politics - it’s about principles that are essential to our justice system and our democracy. On May 1st, at 12:00 pm, members of the Connecticut bar will host an oath reaffirmation ceremony at the United States District Courthouse located at 450 Main Street, Hartford. This 30-45 minute event will provide a vital opportunity for attorneys, judges, and members of our community to: Emphasize the Rule of Law: Underscoring its immediate importance in safeguarding our democratic institutions and ensuring equal justice for all. Protect Judicial Independence: Highlighting the urgent need to shield the judiciary from undue influence and preserve its ability to impartially administer justice. Uphold the Independence of the Legal Profession: Reaffirming our ethical obligations and ensuring our ability to advocate for our clients without fear of reprisal or punishment. The time to act is now. We encourage all legal professionals in Connecticut, as well as concerned members of our community who recognize the urgency of this moment, to join us on May 1st. Similar events will be happening simultaneously at federal courthouses across the nation, creating a nationwide wave of support for these essential principles.
