Today, the world is still under a colonial empire made possible by the biggest military in the world currently and by far. And the #1 top global institutional polluter in the world. That infamous honor is the so-called United States military. Turtle Island is the belly of the imperial beast. In the midst of escalating climate catastrophe, it becomes more imperative than ever not only to name and identify the culprit - U.S. colonialism and its bloated Military Industrial Complex (MIC) - but also to dismantle it while also simultaneously constructing the life-affirming and life-sustaining systems we want to see and live in. For this session of Decolonize U, we will be taking a high and low level view of the so-called United States Military Industrial Complex (MIC). We will define militarism, militarization, demilitarization, and the MIC. We will provide a brief history of how the United States military was founded on Turtle Island and how it exists today and in what context with examples. We will also explore ways to demilitarize via actions and in our minds to continue to build the world where all peoples of the global majority can thrive with honor and abundance. This session will be facilitated and presented by Honor the Earth's two Indigenous women and United States Army combat veterans: our Executive Director Krystal Two Bulls and Decolonize U Manager Wendy Bravo. ***ALL Decolonize U trainings are recorded and distributed to ALL registered participants after the training ends and the recording becomes available.
