"description": "The delivery drivers in NYC wearing Amazon vests, driving Amazon vans, and delivering Amazon packages don’t work for Amazon. At least, according to Amazon… Our City Socialists in Office have partnered with Teamsters Local 804 to change this with the Delivery Protection Act. The bill would force Amazon to employ last mile delivery drivers directly, and implement extensive regulations to protect workers and New Yorkers from Amazon's exploitative practices. NYC-DSA is standing with these essential workers. Join our in-person kickoff Thursday, July 9th from 5-7 pm with Amazon Workers, labor organizers, and special guests to learn about the importance of the Delivery Protection Act and how we can get it over the finish line. During the meeting our field team will train attendees on how to use our call and letter tools to demand the city council stand up to Amazon and pass the Delivery Protection Act! CLICK HERE TO SEND A LETTER! More details below: The drivers that Amazon needs to deliver hundreds of millions of packages in NYC a year are technically "subcontractors." That means Amazon doesn't need to take any responsibility for the rampant pollution, unsafe streets, and exploitative working conditions that produce their record profits. And if workers organize to fight back, Amazon can cut ties with the shell company that employs them without any repercussions. If this bill passes, NYC would become the first municipality in the country to require big corporations like Amazon to directly employ their Last Mile delivery workers instead of relying on shell “subcontractors” to evade responsibility. This would be a groundbreaking, historic change. And Amazon knows it. That's why they are spending millions of dollars to fight its passage, pressuring politicians and bribing workers to say nice things about working for them. We won't let them win. Join the fight to bring Amazon to heel.",
