"description": "Join us at our monthly Green Gathering on Monday 9th February at 7:30pm! Mel Newton is the founder and Project Leader of The SuPer Project (part of Tiger Community Enterprise CIC). The project was set up in 2021 in response to the rise in period poverty in the UK following the Covid pandemic. The project makes and distributes handmade reusable menstrual pads to people in and around Nottingham. In addition to this, she is currently working on a Professional Doctorate in Social Practice at NTU, exploring the impact of the social constructions of menstruation on people's lived experience. In her talk, 'Sustainable Periods and The Rise of Period Poverty', Mel will explore the issue of period poverty in the UK, how we can support our loved ones with their periods and how sustainable periods can support both individuals and the environment. This talk is open to everyone, even if you don't experience periods yourself. We're meeting both in-person in the city centre, and online over Zoom!
