In truth, CMP is asking regulators permission to charge the average customer $216 more per year. That's $190 million in additional CMP revenues! Here's their sneaky tactic: For years, your CMP bill has included a surcharge, allowed by the PUC, to cover CMP's unusually high storm restoration costs in 2022 and 2023. That surcharge expires July 1st, because together, we've paid for CMP's storm costs. For this reason, your bill should drop significantly. But instead, CMP is proposing in two new rate increases: one on July 1st that would take back most of your expected savings, and still another rate hike in May 2027. Based on a recent study, CMP's distant owners will keep $27 million per year of their proposed $190 million increase as profits. And Maine's electricity rates are already 5th highest in the nation. By reducing CMP's allowed profit margin, the PUC can make sure every dollar we pay to CMP goes as far as possible towards hiring local workers and making needed investments in our grid. Tell the PUC: say no to CMP's sneaky rate hike. Take more from their profits, and less from our pockets!",
