"description": "Clean up River Brent (CURB) have invited us to come and help plant river habitat-friendly plants by the riverbanks at Hanwell Bridge — let’s grab our trowels and get out and help a fellow community group improve our green spaces! From Ben at CURB: "Four years ago the entire downstream spit by the bridge was Himalayan Balsam, pretty perhaps, but dominant, leaving bare silt all winter, and without companion species. After a few years of balsam ‘bashing’, last year we planted purple loosestrife here, seen in photograph. This year we have funding to plant native riverside plants like Iris, Phragmites (reed), Hemp Agrimony, Juncus (rushes), and Typha (Reedmace or bull rush). A lot of oilseed rape grew here this year, vying with the docks and nettles. Our plan would be to cut back and clear then dig ground, then plant this area and the upstream section too, as much as we can achieve in our time. Depending on weather conditions, some follow-up watering (bucket from river) would be useful."",
