"description": "Join us for an informal in-person movie screening exploring immigration enforcement, resistance, and abolition. This evening is designed to deepen our collective understanding and spark meaningful conversation. Bring your curiosity and your community spirit. We'll be screening three short documentaries (~20 minutes each): 🎬 Since You Arrived, My Heart Stopped Belonging To Me — Each year, hundreds of Central American migrants journeying north go missing. Their mothers organize together and journey by bus through Mexico, retracing the last known steps of their missing children. This intimate short documentary explores familial grief, longing, and the personal costs of the forces that drive migration. 🎬 Crossing Borders — Khansaa and her family fled the Syrian war in search of a better life in the United States. As refugees living in Oakland, California, they adapt to an unfamiliar culture with the help of a young American mother, a story of motherhood and friendship that crosses language and cultural barriers. 🎬 all that we carry — An intimate glimpse into the life of Maricela, an indigenous Maya Mam asylum seeker from Guatemala, living in Oakland with her two-month-old daughter, Abigail. The film slowly reveals small pieces of her past and all she carries, physically, emotionally, externally, and internally. Snacks and drinks will be provided. 📍 The exact address of our Portland, ME office will be sent to registered attendees 24 hours before the event. This event is open to members in good standing. Space is limited, so register today to secure your spot!",
