"description": "Join us at our monthly Green Gathering on Monday 13th July at 7:30pm! Maryam Din (they/she) is Equity, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EEDI) Officer for the Nottingham Green Party and a queer non-binary Muslim woman. They are passionate about EEDI and have extensive experience in delivering this for organisations and communities. They have recently started as the new Head of Professional and Educational Services at Gendered Intelligence, are a volunteer director at TransActual, a trans-led organisation working for trans people in the UK, and are a Trustee of the Inclusive Mosque Initiative, an intersectional feminist mosque creating safer spaces for marginalised Muslims. As a follow up to their foundational workshop 'What Is Racism and How Can I Be an Ally?' in January, for our July Green Gathering Maryam will be delivering 'Why Is It So Hard to Talk About Race?'. This workshop shifts from learning concepts to fostering open dialogue. Designed as a facilitated peer-learning experience, it creates a brave space for participants to share perspectives and confront the challenges of discussing race. By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to: - Examine the concept of white fragility and its impact on productive conversations. - Explore the journey to becoming anti-racist through the lenses of fear, learning, and growth. - Identify personal and societal barriers to talking about race and collaborate on strategies to overcome them. - Challenge common myths and assumptions that perpetuate inaction. - Practice vulnerable dialogue and peer learning in a supportive environment. If you have not attended training like this before, attendees should be reassured that this will be a safe, open, non-judgemental learning space. Nobody will be expected to be perfect, as everybody is learning. This event is in-person only. A workshop for those who can only attend online over Zoom will be run at a later date. Please RSVP for email reminders and meeting details. If you'd like to attend, we aim to foster as welcoming and inclusive an environment as possible. If you have any accessibility requirements, please let us know and we will do our best to accomodate you.",
