"description": "The Merrmiack Valley is considered one of the birthplaces of American organized labor. Lowell was an industrial city, where thousands of young women and girls were employed in poor conditions in textile factories. Learn more about the history of Lowell, from the indigenous people whose land we're on, to the feminist history of the Mill Girls. 1. Lowell History Tour led by UMass Lowell professor Bob Forrant, Saturday October 11th, at noon. (For those coming from out of town, you can get to Lowell via commuter Rail from Boston or along the Lowell line, or drive in.) Tour ends at 1:30. 2. Canvass for Marcos starting at 1pm until 3pm. If you're coming only for the canvass, we will be starting in Tyler Park in Lowell. We will train you and help you knock doors in the Upper Highlands of Lowell, spreading the word about Marcos' campaign. 3. If you're free, we will regroup at 3pm at Tyler Park and eat together in Lowell. Please join us as we learn about Lowell's history, and then make history together.
