We’ll be discussing three brief articles: &quot;Jews in Tunisia Confront the Alliance israélite universelle (AIU)&quot; by Richard Cohen, &quot;The Racial Politics of the AIU&quot; by Rachel Baron-Bloch, and &quot;Oriental, Feminist, Orientalist: The New Jewish Woman and the AIU&quot; by Frances Milano. In this short schedule of 50 pages, this session opens discussion on the intersections of imperialism, Orientalism, race, and feminism. We ask that participants read all three articles and prepare at least one discussion question. If you’re unable to finish the entire selection, please read the conclusions to each article (pages 39-40 for Cohen, 138-140 for Baron-Bloch, and 321-322 for Milano).
