"description": "Gaza Sunbirds are a team of amputee athletes formed in 2020 with a dream of representing Palestine on the sporting world stage. Forced to give up their training regime in 2023 due to the Israeli bombardment, they turned their attention to supporting their local community. Since then, they have been risking their lives to distribute more than half a million dollars’ worth of food and supplies in southern and central Gaza. Join us for a talk with Karim Ali, the Gaza Sunbirds Co-Founder and International Coordinator. Since 2023, Karim has spearheaded the Sunbirds’ humanitarian fundraising efforts, mobilising global solidarity to deliver life-saving aid in Gaza. The event will feature a video screening, telling the story of team captain Alaa al-Dali, who was evacuated in 2024 to fulfil the Sunbirds dream of flying the Palestinian flag in a global arena, making history as the first Palestinian to race at the second largest Para-cycling event, the UCI World Championships. Karim will be in conversation with xxxxxx, followed by a Q&A and an opportunity to buy merchandise and make donations to support Gaza Sunbirds’ critical work. Since a ceasefire was declared in Gaza in October 2025, more than 800 Gazan civilians have been killed and many still do not have adequate food, water or shelter. With international attention turning away, it is as crucial as ever to hear from Gazan voices and learn about how Jews working for Palestinian liberation can support mutual aid and community resilience on the ground.",
