"description": "Save the date! EBASE, Street Level Health Project, Centro Legal de La Raza, the Chinese Progressive Association, and other organizations fighting to protect workers' rights are holding a press conference on Monday, April 27th at 10 am to celebrate that Oakland is a Worker Town. We are bringing together workers and worker rights organizations from across Oakland to honor the profound impact workers have made through their hard-work, organizing, courage, and solidarity. This event will kick off a week of events, including Worker Memorial Day on April 28, and gear up to International Workers’ Day or May Day on May 1st— a day that has long centered the economic contributions and transformative movements of the working class. Join the “Oakland is a Worker Town” Press Conference to stand side by side with Oakland workers to show your love! Workers, including teachers, care workers, bus drivers, healthcare workers, are and have always been the backbone of the Town. The contributions of millions of workers fuel our local economy and culture and make Oakland the vibrant, creative, and diverse city it is. However, even today, wages continue to be stolen, sick days are not honored, and other labor laws are violated by employers. That’s why worker organizations like EBASE, Street Level Health Project, Centro Legal de La Raza, and the Chinese Progressive Association are fiercely working to ensure that Oakland workers know their rights, that enforcement is comprehensive and accessible, and that we are creating a holistic system of worker support. We stand with workers in calling for all workers in the City of Oakland to be treated with dignity and receive the wages and benefits they are rightfully owed, so that all workers and their families can live full and thriving lives. Join us at this press conference to honor Oakland workers’ contributions and rights!",
