Call on Governor Baker to take action in support of safe and healthy public schools and colleges at the socially distant standout at the State House. We are urging the governor to: 1. Establish a uniform requirement for all districts to start the year with a comprehensive distance learning plan. Provide immediate support for access to the internet where it is lacking. 2. Set clear health and safety standards that must be met for the gradual return of in-person learning, including: Indoor air quality and ventilation in school buildings that meet appropriate regulatory and industry standards. Rapid COVID-19 testing that is accessible, routine, and free to students and staff. Community and public health benchmarks are established, met, and reported transparently. This event, part of a series of actions being held across the state on August 19, is co-sponsored by the Massachusetts Teachers Association, the American Federation of Teachers Massachusetts and the Boston Teachers Union.
